Expanse was born out of a desire to invent and solve high-value clinical problems with first-principles engineering and disciplined execution. Our team of engineers and entrepreneurs harnesses theoretical science to turn clinical insights into devices that are built to scale.
Today, our portfolio spans vascular thrombectomy, neurovascular intervention, lymphatic disorders, and men’s health, each platform addressing large clinical gaps where existing therapies are inadequate or nonexistent. Expanse operates on both coasts, in the San Francisco Bay Area and Providence, Rhode Island, expanding access to our venture studio and full-cycle innovation capabilities.

Every Expanse program is built by the same people who invented the technology. Engineers and operators stay hands-on from first prototype through regulatory clearance, running rigorous design controls, verification and validation, usability engineering, and supplier qualification in-house.
Along the way, we architect and protect extensive IP. Our leaders invented patent portfolios that are licensed to leading multinationals. The regulatory package we build is designed to withstand the scrutiny of FDA review and strategic due diligence alike.
The result is a de-risked, scalable product backed by a complete design history file and a clear path to market.
Launch
Technologies That Reach the Market and Stay There
Expanse launches devices that reach physicians, treat patients, and generate commercial returns, some for more than 20 years and counting. Products created by our team, including AngioSculpt®, Chocolate®, and FLOWRUNNER™, have become trusted tools for interventional cardiologists, vascular surgeons, and interventional radiologists worldwide, collectively generating over $1 billion in global sales to date.
When a program is ready, we spin out an independent company with dedicated commercial leadership to bring it to market and scale it. FlowPhysix, was incubated within Expanse, achieved FDA 510(k) clearance, and is now commercializing the FLOWRUNNER Aspiration System in the US and select global markets under the leadership of Jeff Hopkins and his management team, and with support from Expanse.
For strategic partners, we also deliver turnkey programs through our Build-to-Buy model.
